Tree of Life has a unique community garden. The garden, eight raised beds on the side lawn, is used to raise fresh produce for the food ministry at Chester Eastside. Chester is a food desert, where access to fresh, healthy vegetables is often difficult. We invite anyone who is interested to join us in the garden on Wednesdays from 6:30 – 7:30 from June – August to water, weed and care for the vegetables or on Sundays after worship to pick and pack vegetables for delivery to Chester. No gardening experience is necessary – our experienced gardeners will be there to show you what to do. Gardening is a great activity for everyone including kids and people with disabilities.
In addition to delivering vegetables from our garden, we also invite you to bring excess vegetables from your garden to the church before noon on Sundays during the growing season. Your vegetables will be delivered to Chester to help feed seniors and kids in the summer camp program rather than going to waste.
